Mira's Tale

Adithya Narayan and school kids

“Viteach enlightened me on the amount of effort that goes into educating a person and gave me a chance to rediscover my creativity. I got to know about Viteach during my college orientation and knew right away that this is the club I would want to join. Only on joining did I get to know that this is not just about going to schools and teaching kids but also involves a lot of other background work, like deciding the syllabus and preparing materials for teaching the children. The amount of effort put into this noble cause always fascinates me. I enjoyed being a part of the syllabus team as it curated content that was tailor-made. My first day at a school as a Viteacher was a day to remember. I was teaching alphabets to grade 1 students where I saw a boy sitting very quietly, not wanting to interact in the class while all the other kids were enthusiastic. I walked up to him and made him trace the letter A on a slate and he gradually learnt, which brought a bright smile on his face. He then planted a kiss on my cheeks. How I felt back then cannot be described in words.

Viteachers interaction with underprivileged kids

As we were all about to leave, the kids asked us not to leave and also got our autographs which made me feel like a celebrity. That day I was extremely glad to have chosen Viteach. I then left the school with a sense of accomplishment and contentment as the kids we taught, had by then, known how to write the first few letters. Not every day was peaceful. There would also be days when we weren’t able to cover the syllabus and control the class because of the tantrums the children would throw. I would feel like I had just wasted their time and was maybe even not fit for the club but that feeling would vanish in a few hours. That did not deter me from going to school next week as a better teacher. Viteach is a club that never gives up, which was evident from how we continued working on the study materials even during the pandemic when the main function of the club- going to schools and teaching the kids was put to the toss. To this day, I do not regret joining the club. Once a Viteacher, always a Viteacher!” - Mira
