Sherin Cherian's Tale

One of the first things that struck me when I joined the club is the belief that VITeach is a home of entirely nice people, be it the '18 office bearers, the members, Raghav, the boy I jokingly called 'President' (and then he actually was elected into office, I pride myself on my foresight), or even Sanjay S Gopal, the most terrifying senior on campus. It is one of the most wholesome and welcoming environments that I've been a part of and there are so many memories I can trace back to VITeach.

Becoming an Office Bearer was an entirely new experience for me, one that I was hesitant and uncertain about at first, but am glad was a part of my adventures at VIT. I genuinely miss the 'OGs', as we called ourselves. Be it the random 6pm meetings at the portico, or staying up till 2 a.m. in Rutuja's room deliberating over which shade of orange works best on the Book Fair poster that we drew by hand. From the time we used our 'methods' to find a list of free classrooms as backup for an event, to the joy of seeing someone I met in the girls hostel as part of door-to-door marketing, turn up at the Book Fair, willing to spend for a good cause, the list is unending. I'll miss the time when we nearly made our seniors cry with the improvised Burger King crowns and a cake for their farewell and our top secret fake-meeting-cake-reveal plans at every birthday. Work never felt tedious when I stayed in the library with the OGs till 9pm figuring out how to grade kids. Didn't mind the dinner that followed, seated in a circle at the entrance of library, while the guards looked upon us in disapproval.

I even miss the apprehension that we all felt while adopting a new school, GHS Kandigai, followed by the relief of successfully conducting the Optics Workshop there.

We didn't have a hierarchy. We barely knew each other when we came to Office but we turned into a closely-knit group of friends who wanted the best for the club and I think that was beautiful. Still don't know how we kept putting off the OB Lunch, but we'll make it someday. We did handover our positions to the kids but I truly think we always will be the OGs :)
